GABON is home of some of the most ancient inhabitants of Africa and the world, namely "Akoula" - in one local language. As such, GABON is a host of one the most ancient form of Natural Science, whose concerns included the heavens. It is essential to tap onto this wealth. In so doing we will better highlight native Africans' contributions to the human understanding and use of basic functions of the Universe, while locally strengthening the presence of modern day astronomy & space science. The (biennial) 2015 School for Astronomy and Space Science in Central Africa (SASSCA ) aims for exactly that: Bonding strengths for an enlightning scientific renaissance of Mighty AFRICA. Join us.
Gabon is right in the heart of the "Congo Bassin", the second largest pristine rainforest ecosystem in the world. Second to the Amazonia. It is litterally the second lung of the planet. Hence a national question: How to lead the greening/re-energetization of Africa and potentially the World while preserving this unique asset?
One of the aims of the recently established Gabonese Space agency (AGEOS) is the development of a regional centre for the acquisition and analysis of satellite data to monitor the entire "Congo Bassin". The systematic coupling of astronomy & space science campaigns with initiatives aiming at the preservation of our unique "Congo Bassin" provides the vivifying dream(s) as well as the much needed drive towards more jobs for Africans. Please, share your thoughts and suggestions. |
